EnergyX traces its roots back to Bakke Oil Tools, which was founded by Stig Bakke in 1994 in the industrial park at Opstad near Ålgård. In 2002, Bakke Oil Tools was acquired by Weatherford Norway, which continued operations at Ålgård under the name Weatherford Bakke. When Weatherford decided to move in 2009 due to centralization, Ålgård CNC was established, started by key personnel from Bakke Oil Tools. Ålgård CNC focused on product development, CNC machining, assembly and testing of downhole equipment, thus continuing the expertise and experience that had been built up at Ålgård over many years.
In 2015, new shareholders joined Ålgård CNC, with expertise and networks from the subsea industry. The name change to EnergyX represented a new start where the strategy was to become a total supplier in all segments of the oil and gas industry. Teco Maskinering, a company established in Ålgård in 1995, was merged into EnergyX in 2016. Teco Maskinering had specialized in CNC machining for over 20 years, and the merger gave EnergyX even greater capacity. EnergyX is owned by shareholders who are either employed by the company or have close ties to its operations in other ways.
EnergyX currently has over 30 employees and had a turnover of approximately NOK 70 million in 2022. "We have a good working environment with highly competent employees who have worked in the company for many years. Just over half of the employees work with activities related to CNC machining, but we also have a significant engineering department and our own test and assembly department.
We have our own project managers who follow up on projects from start to finish, and we can take on everything from pure machining assignments to multi-discipline projects that include development, fabrication, assembly and testing of turnkey products.
Our largest customers are Norwegian and international oil and service companies, and we work in the downhole, topside and subsea segments of the oil and gas industry. Recently, we have also expanded our business areas to include aerospace/medical equipment and aquaculture (via Smart Seaweed Solutions) to have more legs to stand on in the future.
